I recently rewatched 2001 A Space Odyssey, and was again blown away by it, both as a movie and a technical achievement. I think if I were a regular movie goer in 1968 seeing this in theaters, the star gate sequence would permanently alter my brain. Even today, fifty years later, it still amazes. After my recent rewatch I have decided to try and recreate the star gate sequence from scratch using python. I know this could easily be completed in adobe after affects, but what's the fun in that. I have also been looking for an excuses to learn about video data processing.
