About:
Zach Bobbitt is a mathematician and developer passionate about collaborative problem solving, data science, and predictive modeling. He attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he got his bachelors in mathematics with a minor in computer science.
Zach First discovered his love of mathematics in High School. Much of his time was spend learning about new mathematical concepts that could give him the edge in state and nation wide math competitions. In 2019 he placed 18th in the state competition in North Carolina, and was also invited to participate on the North Carolina ARML team, which selects the top 30 students in the state and pits them against other state teams.
He was also introduced to academic research through his Dual Enrollment at UNCA, where he worked with a team of undergraduates to develop vaccination strategies against Devil Facial Tumor Disease in Tasmanian Devils (don't look it up if you're squeamish). They would model these strategies with SEIRV models. This revealed in Zach a love of working with teams of likeminded problem solvers to chip away at difficult problems, and showed him a possible future in his career.
Though covid would lead to a slow start in college, Zach would reinvigorate this love by founding the Putnam Study group in 2022. Here, he and other students interested in recreational mathematics would meet biweekly to discuss problems from the William Powell Mathematics Exam, a nation wide undergraduate exam widely considered to be one of the most difficult math tests in the world.
Leading this group would also reinvigorate his love of teaching and leading discussions. In his last year in college, Zach worked as a PASS leader for the Student Services Department at UAH. Here, Zach was tasked with developing a study curriculum for students in a traditionally difficult computer science class as well as leading a supplemental study session three times a week for students. here he would lead discussions, teach material, and provide students with a study guide.
