Putnam Study Group
The Putnam exam is an undergraduate recreational math exam that is held across America. It’s widely considered one of the most difficult math exams in the world. It is rather rare for a student to get even one of the problems correct. That being said, the general enthusiasm at my school to take the exam was low. In hopes of getting other students interested, I sent out emails to all the math professors hoping they would spread the word to their students.
After some fellow students reached out, we all got together for study sessions where we would work on old Putnam problems and discuss math topics that interested us in preparation for the exam. Anyone who wanted to present an interesting problem or topic was allowed to, and after the session we would all agree on an exam to work on until the next meeting.
After covid, it was so fulfilling to reconnect with other math enthusiasts. That was something I had through all of high school and being able to build that community myself was very satisfying.
